Forklift Battery Maintenance Checklist

A simple weekly and monthly routine that can add years to your industrial batteries.

Forklift batteries can cost thousands of dollars, and poor maintenance is the most common reason they fail early. Use this checklist to protect your investment.

Daily

Charge only when the battery is 20–30% discharged, avoid opportunity charging on lead-acid batteries, and let the battery complete its full charge cycle.

Weekly

Water after charging, never before. Use deionized or distilled water and fill to the indicator level. Perform an equalize charge as recommended by the manufacturer.

Monthly

Wash and neutralize the battery top, inspect cables and connectors, and record specific gravity readings on a pilot cell.

Quarterly

Have a professional perform cell-by-cell testing to catch weak cells early. Our maintenance programs handle all of this on site.
